Mary Dee's "reminds me of sophomore year" Banana Bread

Banana Bread was never really appealing to me...until college when my best friend's mom sent it in the mail. This bread includes chocolate - such a great combo with bananas (or most other things) - and a streusel top. Thank you, Mary, I've always enjoyed eating this bread and all your foods when Tom would finally share with me at 4AM. You've changed my thoughts on what I thought sounded pretty boring and dry...and thanks for adding chocolate when the recipe didn't call for it!

preheat oven to 350

2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
2 beaten eggs
1 1/2 cups mashed bananas (5 medium)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cooking oil
1 tsp finely shredded lemon peel (optional)
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chocolate chips

Grease the bottom & sides of loaf ban. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg. Make well in center of dry mix and set aside.

Combine eggs, banana, sugar, oil and lemon peel. Add egg mix all at once to dry mix. Stir just until moistened (batter should be lumpy). Fold in nuts and chocolate chips

Spoon batter into pan. Bake at 350 55 - 65 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. if necessary, cover with fold for last 15 mins of baking to prevent overbrowning). Cool in pan for 10 mins. Remove from pan. Cool completely before slicing.

streusel topping (optional) for the sweet tooth: prep as above, except combine 1/3 cup brown sugar & 1/4 cup flour. Mic in 2 tbsp butter till mixture is coarse crumbs. Stir in 1/3 cup chopped walnuts. Sprinkle over batter before baking.
